This was also an explanation why there weren’t a lot of teen sidekicks in Marvel.
Also JJJ being offended about someone not knowing who Bucky is, and suddenly I have Winter Soldier in my mind going “Who te hell is Bucky?” and JJJ going “How could you not know Bucky?!”
One of the best parts.
Every time this is on my dash, it will be on yours as well.
EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT LEONARDO DICAPRIO DESERVING AN OSCAR
WHERE IS JK SIMMONS’S OSCAR FOR HIS PERFECT PORTRAYAL OF J. JONAH JAMESON HUH?
WHERE IS IT?
Just like RDJ is Tony Stark JK Simmons is J. Jonah Jameson. Holy fuck did he own this character, really <3 him.
Captain America v3 #50
This was suppose to be the end of Captain America vol 3, to my knowledge Marvel never specified if this was an AU or not and when vol 4 started Steve was OK and they never talked or referenced this event.
But yes this was the end of vol. 3 and taking that to consideration, well it’s kind of chilling.
Loved how everyone reacted to Steve’s death though, there were feelings of anger, joy, frustration, sadness, denial, indifference, respect, despair, opportunism, skepticism, helplessness, and glee, depending on the character and their knowledge of interactions (or lack of) with Steve.
Crusher Creel’s reaction was one of the most interesting to me “I hated that guy like poison" considering that in Captain America vol 3 #24, Steve fights him and then they both end up teaming up against Crossbones to save people from an explosion. Cap convinces Creel to let him stop the explosion, and initially Creel doesn’t care but Steve tells him about the lives that are at stake and he ends up helping him.
In the end Creel commits an act of heroism, appears to have died, Steve worries for him and starts shouting, Creel tells him to STFU and that he’s fine and leaves, and Steve then reflects on how he misjudged Creel.
I think Crusher is kind of mourning but he’s not a guy who will admit that even to himself, after all it’s easier to just hate Steve because he’s the enemy than to contemplate on the possibility that maybe he has some respect for him and that he probably was OK with him (especially since Steve gave him the benefit of the doubt and gave him the option of doing something good).
Cap vol 3 also had my favorite “Death of Captain America” story, it only needed one issue to tell it, and it was chilling and bittersweet and full of despair (they never really find Steve’s body, but there is no hope that he’s alive either since he was close to a blast and his body might have been vaporized, and no body also means no closure either).
Also Sam’s eulogy was beautiful.
MARVEL PANEL OF THE DAY
From: Young Avengers (2005) #1
J. Jonah Jameson’s age is one of the great mysteries of the Marvel Universe.
That’s no excuse lady!
Nobody knows how old JJJ is, rumor has it he feeds on the life force of his interns.
J. Jonah Jameson: I was extremely young back then, thank you for asking. Young enough—and naive enough—to want to be Bucky.
Jessica: You wanted to be Bucky?
J. Jonah: Every kid did. Until Captain America led a fourteen-year-old boy behind enemy lines…and got him killed. Suddenly, I didn’t want to be Bucky anymore. Nobody did. From then on, kid sidekicks only showed up in comic books.
Jessica: Until now.

I love how J. Jonah only knows about the PR version of Bucky, who was presented as much younger than Bucky actually was.
I think at that point, Brubaker’s retcon hadn’t been published yet.
Of course, since then, there’s been occasional stories about Bucky really being as young as he was in the golden age. Walking in on Steve in his tent and all.
Stills from Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes 2x11 “Along Came a Spider…”
This episode was good, and I love Steve and Peter bonding.
And then Peter asking Steve if he could be his sidekick after he gives him his speech (which was a bit similar to Steve’s speech to Peter in Civil War) and I want animated gif of those two!
Also Tony defending Steve from JJJ and yelling at him for printing bad things about Steve, people hating Cap for what Skrull!Cap did (Steve feels!), Betty and Robbie making appearances! Classic Shield! Hawkeye being all KID RESPECT YOUR ELDERS with Pete, Serpent Society! And Viper being back to her old self (and I am kind of happy they didn’t make her be suddenly good because of her bonding with Steve during Skrull captivity).
My favorite episode of season 2 right now <3
Variant cover to Winter Soldier #2 (Feb 2012), cover by John Tyler Christopher.
Masterpiece? Eyesore? Sophisticated deconstruction of 21st century American masculine identity through superficially absurdist juxtaposition? I’ll leave it to you to decide.
The inclusion of Jameson just makes this for me.
Also Aunt May getting one is really sweet <3
Jessica Drew has always been more like his sister than girlfriend but I guess with Aunt May and Jameson there, I guess she can get a card too, lol.
