→ Disney Files to Trademark Mexican Holiday, Dia de Los Muertos - Disney News by StitchKingdom.com
Within the past few days, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) has filed several trademark applications in attempt to secure ‘Dia de Los Muertos’ across multiple areas. Dia de Muertos, or ‘Day of the Dead,’ is a holiday most associated with Mexico, where it serves as a national holiday on November 1 and 2 — the days following Halloween — in which families gather together to remember and pray for relatives who have passed on. Interestingly enough, it has also been selected as the topic of an upcoming film from Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Lee Unkrich, tentatively being titled The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dia de los Muertos.
Holy shit.
They can have Marvel and Star Wars but not this, they went too fucking far with this.
This is my culture and Disney can just fuck off if they think they can take over it, hopefully this gets some giant negative press (it helped with preventing Disney from trademarking the words SEAL Team Six) and that TV Azteca and Televisa get a hold of this because that will spread the news like crazy
But seriously, this is cultural appropriation at its worst.
DISNEY HAVE STOLEN MY ARTWORK
I don’t know what to do. I am so upset. Can anyone help me?
My painting was created back in 2010, (see it HERE) and since then so many people have expressed their love for it, not just on tumblr, but in many places. At least 9 people had it tattooed on their bodies. It’s one of my favourite images I created at University and I was proud of it in many ways.
Disney have used it on a cosmetics bag HERE (look at the back)
and they have produced a Tshirt HERE with a really similar design clearly modeled from my paintingI’m so mad because I have no chance at getting Disney to do anything about it. I had so much respect for the company and now I am just SO upset and disappointed.
Any help, advice or signal boosting would be amazing. And thank you so much to the kind person who messaged me about this.

Goldie was too awesome for Scrooge.
In medieval culture, an event like a royal christening is not a private party; it’s the public social event of the year. To not invite any person of rank to such an event is a deadly insult.
Maleficent is certainly someone you wouldn’t want at a party, but she’s also someone powerful enough that only a fool would ever dare treat her with such blatant disrespect. The only way the King and Queen could possibly have gotten away with not inviting Maleficent was to not invite any of the fairies at all; inviting the other fairies and excluding her is explicitly taking sides in the conflict between the fairy factions.
Which means they made themselves her sworn enemies, and she responded by treating them as such from then on. If you actually get into analyzing the social dynamics of the scene, it’s very clear that Maleficent was willing to show mercy at first by giving the King and Queen a chance to apologize for their disrespect to her. She doesn’t curse Aurora until after she gives them that chance and they throw it back in her face with further disrespect.
And yeah, if the King and Queen had done the properly respectful thing and invited her, Maleficent would have given Aurora a scary awesome present. Moreover so would the other fairies, because at that point both sides would be using it as an opportunity to show off and one-up each other. What they gave her before Maleficent showed up was basically just trivial party favors by fairy standards.
Disney announced that it’s shutting down any remaining 2D hand drawn feature animation facilities left and will only be committing to 3D rendered and animated films from now on.
This made me unbelievably sad.
IM SO DEPRESSED
This is the worst news i’ve heard in a long time.
someone help
Damn shame.
Everyone in Toon Town will be out of a job then.):
I guess because 3D animated movies are cheaper and they bring in the big bucks I get that.
But ugh 2D Animation when effort is put into it is gorgeous, besides there are some expressions and stylization you can do in 2D that doesn’t translate well into 3D.
Hopefully in the future we see a return to 2D.
EDIT: Apparently they’re not shutting down the 2D studios, they just don’t have anything 2D planned and probably won’t for awhile.
