I’ve always been fascinated by Ultimate!Thor, the guy is so different from how Thor is in the comic and in the movie.
Let me put it this way, the guy is a hippie an ecocentric activist, enviromentalist, and a pacifist… that’s right he hates fighting and will reluctantly fight if he can’t solve things by talking or in a peaceful way (however, piss him off and good luck trying to calm him down). He is also a political and social activist (even wrote his own self-help books) and the condition he gave to join the Ultimates was for the US to change it’s foreign policy and to stop being so militaristic and aggressive. He then resigns the Ultimates because he thinks they have become a tool for American foreign policy and only rejoins them when the Ultimates stop working for the Government.
He is also not as powerful as Loki, because Loki can manipulate reality in Midgard and could restrain Thor’s powers there (only when Odin intervened could Thor defeat him). But I think that was mainly because Thor was reborn as a man and Loki was still a God.
Also Thor second guesses himself and self-doubts himself a lot. During the Ultimate Thor comic it was evident that his big brother Balder was the guy who counseled him and cheered him up and in the end he gave him the confidence to rise up and become more than he was willing to be. So yeah he’s a totally different guy from the Thor we all know.
Also another reason why people should read Ultimates (vol.1 vol. 2 and Ultimates 2, don’t go for Ultimates 3 and New Ultimates) and Ultimate Thor, seriously don’t let other people deter you from reading it because “everyone is a jerk!” pick up the comics and make your own decision.
